Casino(s) in Amador County California
Welcome, this section is designed to illustrate the costs to the community of the current casino and the potential casinos planned for Our area.
The Buena Vista Casino (BVC)
March 06 2008 - The Buena Vista Band of Me-Wuks, have proposed the Buena Vista Casino (BVC). Sounds like a mouth full, doesn’t it? Let Me try and simplify.
Basically, one woman and her four children struggle to attain their due rights as Native Americans to establish and maintain their Tribe in the modern era, then continue on to become a self sufficient Band by creating a form of business enterprise (a casino).
Sound familiar? That is exactly how the Dalton family began the Jackson Rancheria Casino in 1988 (JRC), and became the formidable enterprise it is today. They too faced bigotry, jealousy and bitter, ignorant resentment and resistance. After years of patient, gracious and often inanely meticulous negotiations with various governmental and non-governmental county entities, they were proven to be decent respectable neighbors and community partners. Why not extend that same hand of friendship to the Buena Vista Band of Me-Wuks?
Proposed project location: Coal mine Rd., Amador County Calif.
A small two lane road susceptible to mass traffic and 20 bus stops a day,
one way. If Hwy. 65 was bad near Cache Creek Casino, then this is a
nightmare waiting to happen. On the other hand, if this casino is blocked,
then the gamblers will continue to wreck on Hwy. 88 as they now do on their
way to the Jackson Rancheria Casino. Traffic has been neglected as a
mitigation issue, whether one casino or more. Either way the topic is not properly addressed by the negotiating parties.
Biggest Myth perpetuated to fight new casinos:
“If the other casino(s) build out, (highest projections - 2000 slots and up to 2000 jobs, each?), then thousands more gamblers will come and ruin Our tiny community..”.
Most likely false. If the two casinos are built, then chances are the “5000-6000 daily gambling tourist trips” will merely divide amongst the three. Why? Because gamblers are greedy and impatient so most will go to the new casinos that are closer to the urban areas.
The reality:
The gamblers will spread out over three main areas of the county, so the Jackson Rancheria Casino will lose business, while the Ione and Plymouth area casinos will not be as heavily traveled as there detractors insist. Meanwhile, the supervisors have backed into a dead end deal that will drag on another three years if no one changes the course of history.
Next month, an indepth review of the proposed casino of the Ione Band of Me-Wuks in Plymouth, California.
