Amador County Recreation Agency - public hearing to consider new recreation impact fees
Jan. 24th, 2007
Notice was given recently that the Amador County Recreation Agency (ACRA) will hold a public hearing to consider adoption of the Recreation Master Plan, Capitol Improvement and Nexus Study Plan. In plain English, The intent is to adopt new recreation impact fees.
Unfortunately, the aim is misguided in that there is an attempt to place the financial burden of new recreation facilities on new people moving in to the area, exclusively. That’s right. If you have lived in Amador County for any of the last 25 years or so, then you will be able to enjoy the new parks for free. If you have just planed to move to Amador County now or in the future, chances are that you will completely fund the new park system.
Thank You in advance, citizens of the future. Since there is no current vote before the general public on this plan, it will probably slip through. Local officials do not have the courage to act properly on this issue, because their interest is making the current voters happy. Most people in the community are retirees, and the issue has been turned down regularly for years. Why? The older group states it is because they don’t want their tax dollars ‘wasted’ on ‘goofy’ projects for the youth. Someone must pay for parks, just not the majority in Amador County. Shame on Us, for decades We ignored Our responsibility to the Kids, because We wanted pet projects for Ourselves. This Community deserves better, and every single one of Us can and should help. Either step up and volunteer, or demand from your public officials that this issue be voted on and paid for by all citizens of Amador County, not just the new ones.
Two public hearings will be held. The first is on January 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the Amador County Offices, 810 Court St. Jackson. During the Amador County Board of Supervisors meeting, your input is needed if you do not think this plan is fair to our future citizens. The second hearing will be at the Sutter Creek City Council meeting, February 5th at 7 p.m. at the Sutter Creek Community Center, 33 Church Street, Sutter Creek.
