I think this is an interesting point, while it is nice to have such ideals about the world, but unfortunately the bad guys do not care nor play by these rules. They tend to make their own rules and then break them. Not everyone in this world plays fair, Wilson should have noticed this. Had Wilson been willing to be more flexible on negotiating some or all of the points, perhaps support for a peace organization could have been in place to stop World War II. Diplomacy was sacrificed for ego, and ego‘s price ended up being the expense of another war.

‘Bad Guys' in politics are the ones trying to kill somebody, Good guys are trying to stop them. Follow the money, find the motive. Money and motive are political power. Foreign policy and domestic policy are rarely symbiotic, and if a choice must be made foreign policy should trump domestic concerns. Hitler wanted to enslave America, Pacifists thought if they wished real hard, it would all melt away. America must fight to defend freedom.
