Rant American Style
Hello everyone, I was waiting to respond to that story from last month, remember the one where the Governor of California cut 30 million dollars from Amador county this year? That’s right, You should care. It was a substantial amount of revenue that would have help a lot of people in this County. It was needed now, not next year or the year after, or maybe the next year after that. Fire, police and schools all at the top of a long list of lost recipients who missed out. I am still waiting…
Okay, how about the Museum? I was amazed at the way in which the public officials have yet again tried to fool the public, especially about fixing such a historic landmark and resource. Last year it was to be put off until this year, now this year it is being put off until next year. Three or more years go by, supervisors get two different pay raises, administrators spend unknown quantities of tax dollars on new office equipment for entire county buildings that have been erected. Lavish administration quarters and a “remodeled” courthouse have become crown jewels within the administrators’ eyes. So after all these Herculean marvels of tax payer expenditure to move and shake, not even one tiny roof for Our poor little Museum?
Ladies and gentlemen, these were poorly designed projects and currently We are not being served by local government. The abysmal example of the traffic flow between the administration building, the courthouse and public law library has now become just another nightmare for the citizens to contend with. Ask Yourself some basic questions; How much did they really end up costing? Second, why take all the expense to build a potentially dangerous court facility, then place it across the street from a school and way across town from the sheriff‘s department? Third, why not add the law library to the planning? Now it seems it will be totally out of place with the flow of traffic and need. Fourth, what assurances will the public have that time, money and human-power will not again be squandered on future projects? A future county jail, a future dam extension, new schools, etc..
Which official will sign such a pledge to guarantee future oversights? I guess I will wait a long time for that news story, too. For those who like the short shtick, We “kooky” hill folk have a saying, fish or cut bait. Jim is right, the list of important issues is long and the vote Our best ally. Also, Madam Pantaloon is correct the only way to effect true change around here is to turn the old time political cronies out in a recall/election. Otherwise, be prepared for the same old malarkey from the same old officials. Such as the recent nonsense of creating another supervisor’s position, the kind of thinking that has got Us here to begin with. More excuses for public officials to take a pass, by not properly representing the current constituents available. Still others pushing for control and power with yet another bad idea, this one leading to a probable 3-3 deadlock of Supervisors on many votes. Come on Amador, let’s do something positive with Our future! 10-24-2007
