After the civil war, the advent of the railroad exponential expanded the ability of a person to travel. Some statistics indicate that even with the expensive use of railroad transportation many Californians’ only traveled a distance of twelve miles from home their whole lives. Cars would lead to the world You are familiar with now.

Image, in their times the railroad trip across America must have been like a trip around the world would be today. Expensive and difficult to manage, but undoubtedly worth it if You survive. Yes, the railroad influenced social events involving America’s ‘manifest destiny’ in a number of ways, but the Native Americans were to suffer in a catastrophic way.

While ranching, cowboys and western land development profited immensely by this access, the Native Americans way of life was to be destroyed forever by the railroads and the "barbed wire wars".
