Preface: The following is a running conversation referencing posts I made in April 2008 on the Amador Ledger Dispatch public forum - “DOA - Investigative reporting in Amador County” and “Man enough to admit a mistake and correct it”. Apparently, I had struck some kind of sensitive topic, since the individual responded tartly with the following;
“Ledger Dispatch Press
It's hard for me to take someone's negative opinion towards the Dispatch's staff seriously when the people doing the dissing can't even write an error free paragraph.
- David L.”
I felt compelled to rebut -
Sorry, Dave
I am sorry You are an elitist and can only see negative thoughts in My comments.
I am sorry people like You can not debate the issues without personal attacks, how about sticking to the facts?
Finally, I do not see “dissing” in My spell check… May I suggest a new mantra for all You ‘Kings and Queens of Can‘t’ out there, “Let Thee who is error free become the new ‘Swami of Amador’, all hail this petty little group of self appointed dictators…”.
The public chimes in, (this is My favorite part, because if I did mess up, they usually start to tear Me up.. if I nail it, they usually add some great insights..) A great way to improve My writing skills, public scrutiny! ….
“gossip queen
the owner of tspn is not a developer. he has operated the tv station for 20 years. you shouldn't believe everything you hear on the street. - "
-page"
Now Dave L. felt compelled to rebut His point -
“Swami of Amador
Boy O' boy did "You" get me there! Would you like some cheese with that whine?
- David L.”
Now the ALD editor rebuts His position -
“Open invitation
Maybe it's silly to take anything I read on here too seriously, but I've seen a handful of comments over the past year referring to stories we aren't covering, though specifics are never offered.
If anyone out there has an important story that should be covered, email me at editor@ledger-dispatch.com. We're always in the market for one. (I thought that had been clear, but maybe not.)
Also, please keep the snippiness on here to a minimum. It reflects badly on everyone.
- Raheem Hosseini, Editor”
I get a kick out of the best responses
Finally, people start conversing again, good. I get a kick out of the best responses, (and You know who You are!)
First to Page, last year (Dec 2007?) the Slivick’s sold the station to Dennis Griffin’s Group, reported on TSPN itself. They obviously still work there, originally and supposedly a transitional management move.
To Dave, WOW, thanks for that scintillating and well worn cliché, keep on making My point for Me.
To the editor, I have emailed the publisher several times on various issues, I am surprised at least one topic was not referred. I will run a few topics by You in the next week.
To summate, let Me clarify one more time for those unfamiliar with My ways, I seek solutions to serious problems regardless of difficulty. When will this community raise the level of debate beyond wallowing in negativity? The longer We stall, the more We lose.
- Mike W. Boitano
“Wallowing in negativity
Practice what you preach. Now let's move on.
- David L.”
By now, I have realized two things. This guy Dave probably wouldn’t quit until He gets the last word, regardless of how ridiculous of a point He has to try and make… Second, I kept thinking of the phrase, “the educated mind will entertain the position of others”. Hum, “practice what I preach?” What is it exactly that I “preach?” I always thought I was strictly advocating a logical position on a difficult topic to discuss. Either way, I recognized Dave’s position. No matter how well I think I have constructed an idea, I’m less than perfect. So, maybe it is time to remember a very important lesson, “don’t become a rambler”. To be continued? Perhaps.
