Main Street Theatre Works 2nd Annual Fundraiser: "April in Paris" at the Hotel Coq d’Or A Fabulous French Pajama Party, with dinner, prizes, auction and more (Jackson, CA) – Last year, Main Street Theatre Works (MSTW) hosted a pirate-themed fundraiser that was a swashbuckling good time, and put everyone in the mood for their first summer show, Treasure Island. This year, they are bringing French frivolity to Sutter Creek as they host their April in Paris at the Hotel Coq d’Or. French Pajama Party, designed to get people in the mood for their opening summer show, the hilarious French farce, A Flea in Her Ear. The fundraiser will be Saturday, April 9th at 6:00 p.m. at the Native Sons Hall in Sutter Creek. The Hall will be converted into a Parisian Hotel, and guests are encouraged to come in their sassiest pajamas, with a prize awarded for the best nightwear. Dinner will be served, music will be enjoyed, and games will be played to win fabulous prizes. We are also bringing back our 50/50 Raffle, where the winner gets 50% of the pot, as well as our auction, where people can purchase trips, spa packages, dinners and more. Tickets for the event are $25 per person, and can be purchased through the MSTW website at www.mstw.org. Seating is very limited and last year this event sold out, so be sure to get your tickets early. Help us celebrate our 2011 Summer Season at the Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre, and make plans to enjoy our two summer shows ~ A Flea in Her Ear, opening June 17th, followed by Leaving Iowa, opening August 5th. Jackson Rancheria presents Cool Blues & Hot Jazz The 33rd annual Mother Lode Hot Jazz Party will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1. This year’s party promises to be the best ever with the addition of an evening of Cool Blues and consolidation of the entire event into one location. Instead of moving both performers and party goers around among multiple venues, the entire party is being held in the beautiful new outdoor event area next to the Jackson Rancheria Hotel. New this year is an evening of Cool Blues on Saturday, April 30. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the music begins at 5 p.m. Maxx Cabello Jr. will open, followed by headliner Tommy Castro. The Hot Jazz Party is on Sunday, May 1, with doors opening at 9 a.m. and the music flowing at 10 a.m. Tom Rigney and Flambeau will headline, joined by Dr Bach and the Jazz Practitioners, JassCity Jazz Band, Tess & Hip Trash, Speakeazy Jazz Orchestra, and First Take featuring Rick Metz. Entertaining between sets will be the youth group ACUSD'S Jazz Band. Free parking is available in the garage, and food and drinks will be available for purchase. Bureau of Indian Affairs hosts conference for Federal, State, County fire safe and fire wise agencies 2011 CALIFORNIA STATEWIDE WILDFIRE PREVENTION EDUCATION AND MITIGATION CONFERENCE The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) will be hosting the conference, which will be open to all Tribes, Federal, State, County Agencies, Fire Safe Councils and Fire Wise Communities. Tentatively, the conference is scheduled in Southern California, June 6-9, 2011. Location to be determined. Thanks to the El Dorado County Fish & Game Commission, Lumsden Pond will be full of rainbow trout just in time for the festivities. The Fishing Derby takes place at Lumsden Park on Saturday, April 9th. Toddlers through second graders fish from 9:00 am - 11:00 am. Third through eighth grade participants fish from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Awards for the longest fish are given each age group. Just bring your own pole and some bait. Fishing licenses are not required for children participating in the Fishing Derby. There will be a Casting Contest sponsored by the Placerville Lions Club. Apple Hill - Fall season - Some Ranches Year-Round
Orchards of fruits and nuts in season; some of the 55 family ranches are open to the public year round. Apple Hill also includes vineyards & wineries and forest land. Watch for cherries in May/June; other stone fruit in June/July/August; garden vegetables in summer; apples and nuts in fall; pumpkins & squash in October; Christmas trees after Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve. Forest Service trails in the Sierra: Leg-stretching hikes less than one-mile include Rainbow, Tallac Historic Site, Trail of the Washoe, Forest Tree, Smokey's Lake of the Sky. Longer, more challenging are Fallen Leaf, Mt. Tallac, Glen Alpine, Clark Angora Lakes, Hawley Grade, Meiss, Echo Lake (1/2 mile to 6 miles). Call Forest Service, 530-644-6048.
